Let’s Learn about Nuclear Bombs & Nuclear Reactors – for our safety.👍

ref: Oppenheimer – https://www.wired.co.uk/article/manhattan-project-robert-oppenheimer

Here we cover in detail the few published test of the 1st ATOMIC bomb in the Los Alamos desert in the USA. It lasted a few seconds. The heat produced was over 10,000C – way over the melting point of iron…

Atomic bombs or the explosive use of nuclear energy – the atomic fission – could have been used only for nuclear reactors – which if well designed (not for profit & responsibly) would stop the massive use of FOSSIL fuels and clear the air and our future (due to climate change and the inexorable rise in CO2).

Now many generations have not seen really what atomic bombs are like, it was a major topic from 1950 to the 60s – so many were born after that period. Here you can learn…

So here we see:

1-Some of the 1st nuclear bombs – the trinity tests.
2-Their effect on people.
3-The incredible effects on the property – cars – homes.
We have the original movies and also slower frame-by-frame views.
4-The types of bombs – fission and fusion (hydrogen).
5-The Chernobyl event in Ukraine – then a part of Russia, now we have seen Russia is using nuclear blackmail in the Ukraine war.

In war, there is no shame.

UKRAINE – CHERNOBYL REACTORS:

Chernobyl Accident 1986(Updated March 2022)

The Chernobyl accident in 1986 was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel.

The resulting steam explosion and fires released at least 5% of the radioactive reactor core into the environment, with the deposition of radioactive materials in many parts of Europe.

The United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation has concluded that, apart from some 5000 thyroid cancers (resulting in 15 fatalities), “there is no evidence of a major public health impact attributable to radiation exposure 20 years after the accident.”

Some 350,000 people were evacuated as a result of the accident.

In February 2022, Russia launched a military operation against Ukraine. On 24 February Ukraine informed the International Atomic Energy Agency that Russian forces had taken control of all facilities at Chernobyl.

FISSION:
The word ‘fission’ means the nucleus is being split apart. Even though all atoms are very tiny, some of them, such as atoms of the element uranium, have a larger nucleus than others. These atoms are the ones that scientists have learned how to split in order to release energy. A Chain Reaction then occurs and produces immense heat and light, including the invisible GAMMA rays that penetrate deeply into the body and results in burns and eventually cancer and death.

Errata: there are a few obvious date mistakes – the year is 2020 and should be 2022.
